Mosquitoes are the deadliest creatures to humans worldwide—claiming 725,000 lives per year and inflicting disease in millions more—so it’s no surprise there’s a whole week dedicated to raising awareness of these vectors of disease.
Education is the first line of defense in the battle against mosquitoes and pest professionals and mosquito municipalities are encouraged to use this week to kick-off their awareness efforts. The public plays a critical role in mosquito populations and prevention, both at home and at work, so reminding home and business owners of what to look for is essential in fighting the bite.
This Mosquito Week remind your customers of the 3 D’s:
- Drain: Empty standing water frequently as this will limit, if not eliminate, breeding
- Dress: Wear light-colored, loose clothing that covers extremities while outdoors
- Defend: Always wear an EPA-approved mosquito repellent on exposed skin
